› SEL-J Pharmaceuticals Wins Patent Case Versus Pfizer

Sel-J Pharmaceuticals’ UNASAN wins the patent case filed against them by Pfizer who owns the competitor brand UNASYN. The case, initially filed by Pfizer in October 2008, alleges the local drug company infringes their patent for UNASYN.
In a resolution dated March 31, 2009, Makati City Regional Trial Court Judge Cezar O Untalan found Pfizer’s patent for UNASYN drug invalid because the said patent forms part of a prior patent which has already expired.
Unasan, with generic name Ampicillin Sulbactam, is a popular injectable antibiotic used in treating pneumonia, surgical infections, kidney, bone and joint infections, and surgical prophylaxis. Unasan 750mg is priced at Php 580.00 per vial, while Unasan 1.5g costs Php 900.00 per vial, with both forms substantially lower in price versus the leading innovator brand.

› SEL-J Pharmaceuticals Launches Cardiologics Portfolio

SEL-J Pharmaceuticals, a 100% Filipino national pharmaceutical company engaged in the importation, sales, marketing and distribution of quality, safe and affordable healthcare products, recently launched its cardiovascular lines of Amlodipine (Sedipin 5mg & 10mg), Simvastatin (Simvaz 10mg & 20mg), and Losartan (Angisartan 50mg) at the Hotel Sofitel on May 4, 2009.
The launch, which was hosted by Ms. Cheryl Cosim in a documentary talk-show format similar to the popular weekend TV program “Salamat Dok” which she herself hosts, was directed by Mr. Raymond Lauchengco. A box-office turn-out of more than 300 internal medicine physicians from all over the country graced the affair. The event featured a discussion with Dr. Kurt Glenn Jacoba, a noted cardiologist and head of the Cardiovascular Department of the Philippine Heart Center, who said that he “welcomes companies” . . . like SEL-J Pharmaceuticals, “which not only offer quality products through excellent bio-assay tests, but also provide patients with very affordable medicines”. Patients who take the above products will have savings of up to 82% as compared to leading brands.
SEL-J executives, headed by Mr. Jay Lacnit, President & Managing Director, also described the dreams and aspirations of SEL-J, as well as its mission of improving and saving lives, highlighting the company’s promise of very affordably-priced medicines, but not compromising efficacy and quality. SEL-J Pharmaceuticals has made it their practice to have their key products bio-tested at the University of the Philippines – National Institutes of Health to ensure that the medicines they offer to patients are comparable to innovator drugs in terms of quality, but with a significant benefit of affordability, thus ensuring compliance even in long periods of therapy.
In a very moving and emotionally-charged portion, three patients who are currently taking the SEL-J drugs were invited to the launch, and were given one year free supply of their medicines by SEL-J’s partner Plethico, one of the world’s leading and most reputable healthcare manufacturing facilities which boasts of a track record of cGMP compliance and ISO certification.
To cap the evening, the audience was treated to a rousing musicale by Filipino singing icons The Apo Hiking Society, who are celebrating this year their 40th anniversary in the music industry.
